Recording news: we are halfway through recording instrumental tracks! It is a small milestone, but also significant because it means we have filled up one entire reel of tape. So, after assessing the 1st pass reels we had in stock, (reels that were recorded on and erased once), we decided that they were not usable for recording due to age. Older tape degrades and gets sticky, which can in turn lead to gum on the tape heads, the main recording and writing functions. That to say, we purchased a new reel of tape to use on the latter half of the album! For you who will be listening to the finished product, this means better sound quality. For me, it means I get to geek out over unboxing and loading a brand new spool of 2″ tape.
Digital news: I’ve decided to make The Responsorial available for digital download, starting at $10 pre-order. This a big decision, as it initially felt contrary to the constraint and ethos of “analog only.” While vinyl purchases already include digital downloads, a digital-only option allows access to the album at a better price point and gives folk agency in how they/you would like to engage the album–spinning on a turntable or driving to work with Bluetooth audio. The digital format does not change anything regarding the vinyl master, nor does it change the analog recording. It just means that the final stage of the digital download will be mixed/mastered on a computer to ensure the best translation from analog to digital and provide high quality listening on any device.
For those who have pre-ordered the album, nothing is different, your order is secure and as purchased! For those who have not placed an order, you have the option of pre-ordering The Responsorial on high quality digital download here, and, as always, you can purchase vinyl here.
Thanks for listening!
